Implants

Dental Implants are one of the most permanent ways to replace lost or removed teeth.

If you currently use dentures, dental implants can provide the support needed to stabilize and anchor your new, replacement teeth.

They are natural looking and enable you to eat a wider range of foods than traditional dentures.

At Shelburne Smile Centre, we have a team very experienced with dental implants, and look forward to speaking with you about your situation.

What are Implants?

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium. It’s inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the natural tooth. An artificial replacement tooth is attached to the implant. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth in place.

How Implants Are Done

  • A thorough examination and x-rays are taken for your dentist to determine if implants are appropriate for you.
  • The next step is for your dentist to put a dental implant into your jawbone beneath the gum tissue. Once this is healed, the implant will bond with the bone and attach to the gum.
  • The second stage of surgery, your dentist will attach an abutment to the implant. Basically, a post that connects the replacement tooth to the implant.
  • An artificial replacement tooth is then made and your dentist attaches it to this post.
  • When replacing several teeth, a fixed bridge is anchored to your implants.
